Natural SPF with Mineral Makeup

Back by popular demand is the subject of natural sun screens and sun blocks. I wrote a blog about this last Summer.

Natural SPF creams are zinc oxide and titanium oxide based which can be too cloying for sensitive or acne prone skins and also leave a white film on the skin.

Some manufacturers grind down these ingredients to eliminate the whiteness  problem but the health scares surrounding these' nanoparticles' continue to grow.

So what other options are there? If you are looking for just day-to-day UV (ultra violet) protection and, like me, have sensitive skin, then consider mineral make-up.

Mineral foundations contain the same two light-reflecting zinc and titanium oxide ingredients but in a fine powder form that you brush over the skin.

Geranium & Thistle Moisturiser
makes a perfect makeup base.
These micronized reflecting powders are barely visible, yet they provide broad-spectrum protection against UV rays.

These powder foundations do not leave any whiteness on the skin, are super-light (and non comedogenic), are gentle on the skin and also don't contain nanoparticles.

More importantly they give you a great natural radiance and are so easy to apply - with none of the usual blending fuss you get with liquid foundations.

Most offer a natural UV sun protection of 15-25 SPF, but buy from a reputable brand that guarantees this.

Do check the manufacturer’s advice on how frequently you should re-apply to maintain the SPF.

Inika SPF 20 Mineral Foundation
Mineral make-up brands I use and love are Inika (round the corner from us!) and LilyLolo.

I use our Geranium and Thistle Moisturiser before applying mineral powders.

We have lots of professional make-up artists (we get lots of orders from Hollywood!) using this moisturiser as a make-up base as it is very quickly absorbed and drys to a perfect matt base.
